INSTRUCTIONS FOR PATIENTS

Below you will find useful instructions regarding your treatment in its initial stages as well as its overall course.

Bracket bonding
  1. During the first few hours after bonding, you will notice increased saliva production. Your mouth will feel wetter than usual.
  2. It is advisable to avoid chewing gum for the first 24 hours.
  3. If any hooks irritate your cheeks or lips during the initial period, you may apply wax according to the instructions provided.
  4. You may experience tooth sensitivity during the first week after bonding, which can be intense. In this case, it is recommended to take pain relievers such as Algofren or Depon.
  5. A soft diet is also recommended for the first week due to the observed tooth sensitivity.
  6. Throughout the treatment with orthodontic braces, be extra careful while chewing. Cut hard foods into smaller pieces before eating.
  7. Slight mobility of the teeth is normal throughout the treatment with orthodontic braces.
  8. After each meal, it’s essential to maintain oral hygiene according to the provided instructions.
  9. Using interdental brushes and mouthwash every night is important for oral hygiene. We recommend TePe brushes (colors: fuchsia, orange, red, blue, or yellow) and mouthwashes such as Chlorhexil F, Therasol Junior, or GUM ortho.
  10. If a bracket becomes loose or if the end of the wire is bothering you, please contact us.
  11. If you participate in sports that carry a risk of facial injury, it is recommended to wear a protective mouthguard throughout the duration of your treatment.
Lingual bracket bonding
  1. During the first few hours after bonding, you might have increased saliva production. Your mouth will feel wetter than usual.
  2. It is advisable to avoid chewing gum for the first 24 hours.
  3. If any of the brackets irritate your tongue during the initial period, you can apply orthodontic wax according to the provided instructions. Additionally, a healing gel (such as Aftamed gel) can be applied topically for 20 minutes, three times a day.
  4. During the first week after bonding, you may experience tooth sensitivity, which can be pretty intense. In this case, it is recommended to take pain relievers (Algofren 600mg every 12 hours).
  5. A soft diet is also recommended for the first week due to the increased sensitivity.
  6. Right after lingual bracket bonding, you might experience some speech difficulties, especially in the pronunciation of sibilant sounds. Reading a newspaper or magazine aloud for a few minutes every day helps you adjust more quickly. However, during the first few days after the brackets are placed, it is advisable to avoid long conversations that may tire your tongue.
  7. Throughout treatment with orthodontic braces, exercise caution while chewing and always cut hard foods into smaller pieces before eating them.
  8. It is normal for your teeth to exhibit slight mobility during the course of orthodontic treatment with braces.
  9. After every meal, it is essential to maintain oral hygiene according to the instructions provided.
  10. Using interdental brushes and mouthwash every night is crucial for good oral hygiene. We recommend TePe brushes (colors: fuchsia, orange, red, or blue) and Chlorhexil-F mouthwash.
